PROCLAMATION
Whereas, in
Delaware
we
are blessed
with
one of the Na
tion's highest per capita
incomes;
and
Whereas, the
labor-management relationship in
our
State is
such that
it
assures
continued economic
growth
as
well
as maintaining a high level of
employment; and
Whereas, the American
worker, through
his
skill and
ingenuity,
strives to
raise
the standard of
living for
everyone;
and
Whereas, it is fitting that the
vital
contributions of
work
ing
men
and
women
to
the welfare
of
the
State be
suitably recog
nized; and
Whereas, the first Monday
in September i
s
additionally set aside
to honor America's labor force;
Now,
therefore,
I, Russell W
.
Peterson,
Governor
of the Sta
te
of Delaware
,
do hereby proclaim Monday,
September 7, 1970, as
LABOR DAY
in Delaware, and I urge all residents of The First State to join
me in saluting our
labor force
with appropriate
observances. I order
that the American
Flag
and
the flag of the State of Dela
ware
be properly displayed from all government
and
public build
ings
on this day.
Further, I urge
that
all motorists
drive with their
headlights on from noon Friday, September 4,
through Monday,
September 7, u
s
ing low
beams during
daylight hours to forcefully
remind
us
of
the mounting high
way
accidents
resulting
in far
too
many
fatalities.
