STATE OF DELAWARE

PROCLAMATION

Whereas, on April 14, 1970, the peoples of the Western Hemisphere will observe the 80th Anniversary of the founding of the Organization of American States; and

Whereas, this organization was founded to promote inter-American cooperation, thus providing a framework for formulating and implementing cooperative measures for the economic, social, educational, and cultural development of the entire West ern Hemisphere; and

Whereas, the Organization of American States has continued to maintain the peace and security of the Western Hemisphere; and

Whereas, in recognition of the importance and the accom plishments of this organization, the President of the United States annually proclaims April 14 as Pan American Day;

Now, therefore, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, April 14, 1970 as

PAN AMERICAN DAY

and the week of April 12 through April 18, 1970 as

PAN AMERICAN WEEK

in Delaware,and urge the citizens of the First State to rededicate themselves to the ideals of the inter-American system, and to the goals of economic and social progress which are based on our common belief in the dignity of man and our faith in freedom.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of the State of Delaware, have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the said State to be hereunto affixed at Dover this 30th day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and seventy, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and ninety-fourth.
