STATE OF DELAWARE
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT

PROCLAMATION
Whereas, conservation of our natural resources is
vital
to our Nation and should always be uppermost in our minds and hearts; and
Whereas
,
forests
are harvested annually as a part of our
economy
thereby making it desirable to encourage the planting of trees
which
will, in turn, replenish this necessary resource; and
Whereas, our woodlands
also
provide beauty and shade which adds color to our countryside, and serves as
shelter
for our birds
and
other
wildlife;
and
Whereas, in recognition of the benefits
and
influence of
s
uch bountiful gifts
showered
upon the lives and fortunes of future generations,
our
forefathers sought to communicate an under
standing
and
appreciation
of our natural assets by providing for
the
observan
c
e of Arbor
and
Bird Day; and
Whereas,
Section 2108, Title 29 of the Delaware Code pro
vides
that the last Friday in April
shall
annually be proclaimed
as
Arbor
and
Bird Day;
Now, therefore, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 24, 1970 as
ARBOR AND BIRD DAY
in Delaw
a
re,
and
urge all educational institutions, civic organizations,
and
private citizens to hold appropriate observances on that day to
stimulate
widespread
awareness
and appreciation of the aesthetic, physical, and economic values of wildlife, forests, and
every
individual tree
which
grace our Nation's landscape.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of the State of Delaware, have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
