PROCLAMATION
Whereas,
education
leads to the realization of human potential through the
acquisition
of knowledge and the
development
of disciplin
e
and skills; and
Whereas, the material rewards
which
come to
the
individual
with sound training are
transcended by
the
benefits
to the Nation
of the competenc
e,
maturity and
social
responsibility
gained thereby;
and
Whereas,
scientific
and technological breakthroughs, while
opening new vistas for
m
ankind,
are creating unforseen
stresses on
the
educational system;
and
Whereas, within the State of Delaware there are flexible and
varied educational
opportunities on
every
level from
that
of the preschool child to that of the
senior
citiz
e
n, the
major emphasis falls on th
e
training of the
young
men
and
wo
men up
on
whose shoulders will
rest the responsibilities
and decisions
of
the future;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of
the
State of Delaware, do hereby proclaim
the week
of October 25-31, 1970, as
AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK
in Delaware, and urge the residents of the First State to
acquaint themselves
with both the advances and the problems of modern education and to encourage and support
those
who have
chosen as
their careers the education
of
others.
