GOVERNOR OF THE SAID STATE
To all Persons to whom these Pre
sents shall come, Greeting:
WHEREAS, an election was held in the State of Delaware, on Tuesday, the third day of November, in the
year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred
and seventy that being the Tuesday next after the first Monday
in said month, in pursuance of the Constitution of the
United States and the Constitution and
La ws of the State of Delaware, in
that behalf, for the election of a Sena tor for the people of the said State, in the Senate of the United States for the Constitutional term, to commence on the third day of January in the year of
our Lord one thousand nine hundred and seventy-one.
AND WHEREAS, the official certificates or returns, of the said
election, held in the several counties
of the said State , having been duly received and examined by the Governor, it appears from them that the votes
in the said counties respectively for such Senator were cast as follows to wit:

AND WHEREAS, the said returns of the election for the choice
of a Senator of and for the said State in the Senate of the United States, as aforesaid, duly made out, signed and executed having been duly delivered to the Governor by the Superior Court of said counties, and the Governor having examined said returns as aforesaid, and enumerated and
ascertained the number of votes for each and every
candidate or person voted for, for such Senator, the result appears as follows, to wit:
Whole number of votes for Jacob W. Zimmerman 64.740
Whole number of votes for William V. Roth, Jr. 94.979
Whole number of votes for Donal G. Gies 1,720
Whole number of votes for Samuel Shipley 1
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Russell W. Peterson, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby declare that William V. Roth, Jr. has
received the highest vote at the election aforesaid, and therefore has
been and is duly and legally elected Senator of
and for the State of Delaware in the Senate of the United States for the Con
stitutional term to commence on the third
day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand
nine hundred and seventy-one.
GIVEN UNDER MY HAND and the Great Seal of the said State,
at Dover, the twenty-seventh day of Novem
ber in the year of our Lord one thousand
nine hundred and seventy, and of the Independence of the said
State the one hundred and ninety-fifth.
