CHAPTER 120
AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 27, CHAPTER 237, VOLUME 51, LAWS OF DELAWARE, ENTITLED "AN ACT TO REINCORPORATE THE TOWN OF BRIDGEVILLE" RELATING TO THE POWER TO RAISE REVENUE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Delaware (two-thirds of all the Members elected to each Branch thereof concurring therein):
Section 1. Section 27, Chapter 237, Laws of Delaware, Volume 51, is amended by striking the first paragraph of said section and inserting a new paragraph in lieu thereof to read as follows:
The Commissioners shall have the power to levy and collect taxes on real property within the limits of the Town, except that which is not assessable and taxable by virtue of any law of the State of Delaware, which shall not be more than $40,000 in any one year clear of all delinquencies and expenses of collection provided that the Commissioners shall have power to levy and collect taxes on all real property in the Town in an amount unlimited as to rate or amount for the purpose of paying the principal and interest on general obligation bonds of the Town issued pursuant to Section 29 of this Act. The Commissioners shall have the right to grant or refuse, and to charge fees for licenses, or permits for businesses of any description carried on within the limits of the Town as well as for transient businesses and shows except as otherwise provided herein. The Commissioners shall likewise have the power to levy and collect taxes upon the individual residents of the age of twenty-one years or over, commonly known as "head tax". The Commissioners shall also have the power to levy and collect franchise taxes and to impose sewer rentals and water rentals.
