STATE OF DELAWARE

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the President of the United States has proclaimed Wednesday, April 6th, as "ARMY DAY", and

WHEREAS, in these days of international tensions and uncertainties, when the basic tenets of democratic government are under attack by the enemies of individual freedom, the people of the United States, in their earnest desire for peace, have expressed their will that our defenses be strengthened, so that the voice of America may be heeded in the council of nations, and

WHEREAS, the United States Army, on the anniversary of our entry into the first of two great world conflicts, wishes to inform the people concerning its composition, its personnel, weapons and. defensive mission and to that end will hold various public exhibitions and demonstrations,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Elbert N. Carvel, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, April 6th, 1949, as "ARMY DAY" and call upon the people of the State of Delaware to make use of this day to acquaint themselves with the operations of our United States Army, part of our team, for security. I particularly urge that this day be observed by giving thought to the nation's need for adequate protection, and that each citizen resolve to play his part as an indispensible member of our great defense team which is composed of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the individual citizen. Let us also on this day honor, aid and encourage the services of those civilian ,soldiers who in time of peace give so generously of their time and energy to the end that our reserve forces may be ready for action if needed.
