CHAPTER 73 - MEDALS

AN ACT CREATING A COMMISSION FOR DETERMINING THE DESIGN AND CHARACTER OF A STATE MEDAL TO BE AWARDED ALL MEN AND WOMEN SERVING IN THE UNITED STATES FORCES FROM THE STATE OF DELAWARE AND THE DELAWARE STATE GUARD.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Delaware in General Assembly met:

Section 1. Within one year after the signing of an armistice with Germany or Japan, whichever shall last happen, the then Adjutant General of the State of Delaware shall appoint a Commission to pass upon the design and character of an appropriate medal to be awarded each Delawarean who shall have served in World War II and shall have been discharged other than dishonorably from the services of The United States. If such veteran so discharged shall be unable for any reason whatsoever to personally accept the medal herein provided, the same shall be presented to his next of kin.

Section 2. The Commission shall be known as World War II Medal Commission and shall be composed of two commissioned officers of field .grade of the National Guard of Delaware, two commissioned officers of field grade of the Army of the United States other than the National Guard of Delaware, one commissioned officer of field grade of the United States Marine Corps, one commissioned officer of the equivalent of field grade of the United States Navy or Coast Guard, and one officer of field grade from the Delaware State Guard, all of whom shall have served from Delaware.

Section 3. The Adjutant General shall act as chairman of the said Commission.

Section 4. In addition to selecting an appropriate medal for services in World War II, the said Commission shall also determine the character and design of a medal to be awarded each member of the Delaware State Guard who shall have served at least one year therein and who shall have been honorably discharged, or who shall have served at least one year and shall still be a member thereof.

Section 5. The said Commission after the decision as to character and design of the said medals shall report to the next session of the General Assembly of the State of Delaware and shall recommend an appropriation sufficient to meet the costs of striking of the said medals and of their award to those entitled under this Act.
