CHAPTER 136 - CORONERS GRANTING POWER TO ORDER AN AUTOPSY

AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 49 OF THE REVISED CODE OF DELAWARE, 1935, RELATING TO CORONERS, BY PROVIDING THAT THE CORONER HAVE THE POWER TO ORDER AN AUTOPSY IN CERTAIN CASES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Delaware in General Assembly met:

Section 1. That 1519 Sec. 1 of Chapter 49 of the Revised Code of Delaware, 1935, shall be amended by adding thereto a new paragraph to read as follows:

The Coroner of the County shall order and direct an autopsy to be performed in the following cases:

All anesthesia deaths.

Deaths by criminal violence.

Deaths by accident.

Deaths by suicide.

Deaths by abortion.

Deaths by agranulocytosis.

Deaths by poison or suspicion of poison.

Sudden death when in apparent health or unattended by a physician.

Deaths in any suspicious or unusual manner.

Deaths in institutions less than twenty-four hours after admission where a diagnosis cannot be made. (This includes deaths in coma).

Unclaimed bodies.
