CHAPTER 357 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, October 27th of each year is the Anniversary of the birth of one of our ex-presidents, the late Theodore Roosevelt, a man characteristically American, who devoted much of his time to the creation and establishment of a sound naval policy for the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, because of the signal service of this true and loyal American, the Anniversary of his birth was selected as the most appropriate day of the year to pay tribute and respect to the Navy of our country; and

WHEREAS, the glorious accomplishments and heroic feats of our first line of defense in the war now being fought on every sea fill us with just and genuine pride and give assurance that every tradition of the American Navy will be zealously guarded and securely preserved; and

WHEREAS, the slogan for Navy Day 1943 "YOUR NAVY --SPEARHEAD OF VICTORY" and the appeal "BUY WAR BONDS" command the loyal support of all Americans; and

WHEREAS, with the approval of the Secretary of the Navy, the Navy league of the United States has for the year 1943 designated October 27th as the day for national observance,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, do proclaim

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 1943 as

NAVY DAY

and urge the people of Delaware to join in commemoration of this very outstanding day in our national life and in tribute to the officers and men of our American Navy;

AND FURTHER, I request the displayal of the American Flag by public officials and citizens of our State on Government buildings and other suitable places and participation by all Delawareans in appropriate exercises in recognition of this important observance.
