CHAPTER 375 - STATE OF DELAWARE - EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, our enemies overseas are falling back before the onslaught of Allied war might, but there is one enemy that still shows no signs of yielding--the home-front enemy FIRE; and

WHEREAS, recent catastrophes of fire and explosion have taken a heavy toll of human lives and every year many thousands of our citizens suffer cruel death or injury from fire; and

WHEREAS, today more than ever before it is the duty of all private citizens as well as constituted authorities, to do their utmost to safeguard against this needless sacrifice of human lives and this waste of our vital resources, particularly all material required by our fighting men on every battlefront.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Walter W. Bacon, Governor of the State of Delaware, do hereby designate the week of October 8 to 14th inclusive as

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

and call upon every .patriotic citizen, every public authority, all civic bodies and all educators, to emphasize for the benefit of our people the grave danger attendant upon uncontrolled fire in the home, in industry and in business, and to lend their best efforts to this worthwhile campaign to reduce the losses by fire in this State. I further urged that appropriate agencies of the State cooperate with all our citizens in initiating programs for the emphasizing of these objectives.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand, and affixed the Great Seal of the State of Delaware at Dover, this twenty-eighth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and forty-four, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and sixty-ninth.
