CHAPTER 84
STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT AN ACT authorizing the State Highway Department to appoint Traffic Officers. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Delaware in General Assembly met:
Sec. 1. That the State Highway Department be and it hereby is authorized to appoint traffic officers whose primary duties shall be to compel the enforcement of all laws relating to the weight, speed and operation of vehicles on the public highways in this State.
Sec. 2. That such traffic officers shall be classified as captains, lieutenants, sergeants, corporals and privates according to the duties assigned to them from time to time by the said Department.
Sec. 3. That each of said captains shall receive a salary not exceeding One Hundred and Sixty Dollars per month ; that each of said lieutenants shall receive a salary not exceeding One Hundred and Fifty Dollars per month ; that each of said serge- ants shall receive a salary not exceeding One Hundred and Forty-five Dollars per month ; that each of said corporals shall receive a salary not exceeding One Hundred and Forty Dollars per month ; and that each of said privates shall receive a salary not exceeding One Hundred and Thirty Dollars per month.
Sec. 4. That the said traffic officers shall have police powers similar to those of sheriffs, constables, and other police officers and shall be conservators of the peace throughout the State and such traffic officers are hereby authorized, empowered and directed to suppress all acts of violence and to enforce all laws relating to the safety of persons and property.
Sec. 5. That all Acts or parts of Acts inconsistent here- with, including particularly Section 16 of Chapter 213, Volume 30, Laws of Delaware, and Chapter 195 and Chapter 196, Volume 32, Laws of Delaware, be and the same hereby are repealed.
