AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE TOWN OF GEORGETOWN RELATING TO THE REGISTRATION OF VOTERS AND UNCONTESTED ELECTIONS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE (Two-thirds of all members elected to each house thereof concurring therein):
Section 1. Amend Section 3.4.2 of the Charter of the Town of Georgetown by making insertions as shown by underline and deletions as shown by strikethrough as follows:
Sec. 3.4.2 Voter Registration.
The Town Council may, by Ordinance, establish a reasonable procedure for the registration of voters and, in such event, compliance therewith may be a prerequisite for voting at the election. Registration of voters in Georgetown municipal elections shall be administered and conducted by agreement with and pursuant to regulations promulgated by the Department of Elections for Sussex County.
Section 2. Amend Section 3.4.3 of the Charter of the Town of Georgetown by making insertions as shown by underline and deletions as shown by strikethrough as follows:
3.4.3 Uncontested Elections; write-in candidates.
(3) In the event that no person files for office for which an election is to be held within the time set forth in Section 3.3 of this Charter, the incumbent shall be deemed to be reelected for a full term and it shall not be necessary to have an election.
(4) In the event that only one person files or is nominated for office for which an election is to be held within the time set forth in Section 3.3 of this Charter, the person who files or who is nominated shall be deemed to be elected for a full term and it shall not be necessary to have an election.
